Ready, Set, Go...

How many of you have seen the television show, The Amazing Race? It's really a great show that our family watches on Sunday evenings...check it out next season if you have never seen it! In fact, Dillon and Derek were going to apply for the show but you have to be at least 21, so it's on the back burner. There is no way that Derek and I could go on the show because we always get into trouble when he is driving and I am trying to give him directions ;) He claims the problem stems from the fact that he always listens to me and most of the time I give him the wrong directions...oh well, I think I'd rather remain happily married than go on the show!
Anyhoo, Dillon and Brooke decided to organize an Amazing Race for our church's youth group on June 26th and it was a BLAST!! There were many who volunteered to help out and above is the row of "taxi's" that the teams could choose from. From the church the teams had to go to different locations around Acton and perform tasks correctly in order to receive their next 'clue'. Basically, the activity was a glorified 'car rally'!!
I was the judge at the 2nd stop where a team member had to say "We are in a hurry! May we have our next clue please? in sign language :) Their clue had pictures of how to sign the words but if the team member knew ASL...great for them (there were four of my previous sign language students in the race). Above is Dalton reading the clue and since he knows ASL, he advanced his team nicely!

Here is Bitsy's team running to me for their clue. Unfortunately, the team didn't chose Bitsy for this challenge and another member had to figure out how to sign the phrase. Bitsy could not help out or the team would have been penalized 15 minutes towards advancement! Just like in the show...
There were two other stops that I have no pictures of...one of which involved catching 12 live gold fish and the option of advancing their team if a member swallowed a gold fish! Can you believe that all teams swallowed a fish except one...I was shocked! Above is the last challenge where each team had a dozen eggs with only one being hard boiled. A chosen member put a poncho on and then the other team members would take turns throwing eggs at him/her until they found the hard boiled egg! Hilarious!! Once the team found the h.b. egg they ran to the finish line!
Look who's team won! Yep, Dalton's :) Here is his team: best friend Zac, Tarynn, & Makaela (zac's sister). They each received movie tickets as the grand prize!!
The master minds behind the whole thing - stellar job you two!!

The judges and Taxi drivers...

The whole gang...
Do you remember Victoria Jackson from SNL? Well, she just moved to Acton a few months ago and is attending our church! She is a strong Christian lady who I have enjoyed getting to know, not to mention a kick in the pants!!
Afterwards, we had an ice cream bar with all the fixin's!

Anthony giving a 'thumbs up' on the evening :)
Here everyone is singing Happy Birthday to Dillon....A great way to end a memorable evening! It was decided to make the Amazing Race an annual event!

  1. W.O.W.!!! Great Job, Robin. It was a joy to read and catch up on the past events...I even passed along the website to my sister so she could share in all the good "goings on".

We are truly blessed with all God has provided for us. Max

  2. What fun! But, I have to add that I would really enjoy watching you and Derek on the Amazing Race. I can already see it in my mind.
