For the past 9 weeks I have had the opportunity in assessing a sweet, 1st grade girl (let's call her Emma) who is an emergent reader. Each week I would go to her class, pick her up and we would go to the "Reading Classroom". On this one particular day, Emma was finishing some schoolwork so I waited for her to finish; a classmate of hers walked up to me and smiled from ear to ear, revealing her last front tooth dangling by a thread! Here's how the conversation went:
- Me: Oh boy, you are about to lose that tooth! Do you know what you should do?
- Girl: No! What?
- Me: You should eat corn-on-the-cob!
- Girl: Hmmm...that's not in season, is it?
On my last meeting with Emma, I shook her hand and thanked her for helping me to become a good teacher. She smiled and said, "No problem. I'm gonna miss you!" My heart melted...
I am so thankful for these opportunities and look forward to what the Lord has in store me and what other fun stories I will have to share!
Okay...that was a nice break, now back to the books!!
