Unexpected...

Yesterday I experienced the most unexpected emotion...

I went to Bethel to meet with the school administrator in order to hand in my final paperwork for the boys. I was to pick up Dillon's diploma as well. We greeted each other, she looked over the paperwork to make sure it was complete and then she handed me Dillon's diploma and said, "Tell Dillon, Congratulations!"

Here it comes...

As I looked at the diploma and started to read it, I started to cry! Not a little misty cry but a full blown gotta get out of here quick kind of cry!

She was sweet and hugged me, empathizing with my emotion :) Replying, "The first one is always hard."

As I got into my car (trying to compose myself), I looked at the diploma again and was able to read the whole thing but to no avail started to cry again...

I called Derek:

"Um, hello? I just picked up Dillon's diploma and I'm a mess!"

"That's sweet!" (small chuckle)

As he asked me how I was feeling, I started to reflect...

  • Is it really possible that our little boy is graduating from high school?
  • And in sixteen days he will be 18 years old?
  • How did this happen so quickly?
  • I still have so much to teach him!
  • Is he ready?
Then in my joy I recognize that yes, he is ready and it's time for him to spread his wings and fully become the man that God has designed him to be. It's an exciting time and I am truly embracing it; fully anticipating all the challenging and rewarding circumstances that God has already planned for Dillon.

Jeremiah 29:11-13
  • "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart."

Our prayer for Dillon is that he would indeed continue to search for God with his whole heart and keep Him at the center of all things. Won't you please join us? :-)

  2. OK, I knew this would get me...what a wonderful day with all of you and the sweet time with Dillon. Watching the video and remembering all thoses sweet times we shared, I know that God has blessed me to a part of the boys lives. Dillon has indeed grown into a mature and Godly young man and I am privileged to have him call me Grandma. Congratulations to all of you.
